Lacrosse is a stickball game that was started by American Indians. Although today it is a fun game, it wasn't always so. The Indians played it to settle disputes with other tribes which sometimes resulted in death--thank goodness that's not how it's played today! Anyway, in my blog I will talk about both men and women's lacrosse and the differences they possess and I will also be reviewing various lacrosse equipment in hopes of proving an expert's opinion when purchasing these items.
Let's start out with the basics of the more popular men's lacrosse. The goal of the game is to use your stick (crosse) to scoop up the ball and convey it into the goal for a point without using your hands. The field positions are goalie, attack, midfield, and defense. Attack and Midfield are considered offense. The job of the attackers is to score goals but they can only stay on the offensive half of the field. Midfielder's job is to help out the offense and defense and can run the entirety of the field (these people can run)! And of course defense must defend the goal and make sure that the other team does not score. There are little sub-positions within those but that is for another time. The game is played in 4 twelve minute quarters on a football sized field. There are ten players on the field per team. Unlike women's lacrosse, men's lacrosse is a full-contact sport so players wear helmets and padding for their protection. I know this has been a lot of information to take in but in later post I will break down the facets of lacrosse. In the meantime, feel free to browse at my current recommendations and reviews of the latest lacrosse equipment or visit our store.
Thanks Laxers!
